Marina del Rey comprises 807 acres, of which 1/2 is under water. It is actually a man-made phenomenon, having been constructed in the late 1950s. The approximate borders include the area west of Lincoln Boulevard, east of Via Dolce, north of Ballona Creek and south of Washington Boulevard/Oxford Basin, and the Pacific Ocean.
Marina Del Rey (Silicon Beach) is Home of the world’s largest man-made yacht harbor, with 19 marinas with capacity for 5,300 boats and is home port to approximately 6,500 boats. Marina del Rey translates from the Spanish as “Harbor of the King” and if that seems a tad grandiose consider the following: One of the definitions of king is “best example of its kind.” So, adding a dose of humility, the designation Marina del Rey simply says, ‘This is a pretty darn good harbor.
