Memorial Villages- the very name conjures up miles of beautiful trees, large lots, manicured lawns and some of the most expensive homes in Houston. Although Memorial Drive (a former Indian trail) originates in downtown Houston, the ‘Memorial Villages’ is generally referred to as those neighborhoods that lie between the 610 Loop on the east, west to Gessner, I-10 (Katy Freeway) on the north to the natural boundary of Buffalo Bayou on the south.

Before Houston could annex the developing neighborhood in the 1950s, the residents joined together and created the four villages which encompass 11 square miles of home sites – Hunters Creek, Piney Point, Hedwig, and Bunker Hill. Motivated by a desire for residential zoning, those early residents created a community with a distinctive country-estate atmosphere that ranks among the most desirable properties anywhere in the Country.Like River Oaks, the Villages are home to many powerful business leaders and boast some of the highest median household income statistics in the country.

However, the architecture of the Villages is more rural and less of a showcase; Driveways wind through thickly forested yards, and homes sit on large lots, many an acre or more. While independent from the metropolis around them, the Villages provide quality services to meet the expectations of the corporate executives who flock to the area. Police protection tops the list, officers on continual patrol have the ability to respond quickly to any problems which might arise. Commercialism and billboards are outlawed, but full-service shopping centers thrive on the edge of the neighborhoods.

City Accessibility
What especially impresses first-time Memorial visitors is just how accessible Houston's downtown is to a "place in the country." This forest of homes is only minutes from city center via the I-10 (Katy) Freeway or the more scenic Memorial Drive route.
